Our specialties include In Ground Vinyl Liner and Safety Cover replacement, sales, and installation, as well as equipment repairs for pumps, filters, heaters, components, and plumbing.
The information here on PoolRepairOKC.com is presented from the repairman's point of view on the basics of diagnostics and repair. We hope you enjoy our sites, and find them useful!
Replacing an in ground swimming pool liner is a significant investment, similar to replacing carpet in your home. Likewise, your liner should last many years, and is custom fitted to your pool.
When your pool liner is accurately measured and installed by a qualified professional, the average life of an in ground swimming pool liner is said to be around 8-10 years. I have seen some liners still in service for as long as 20 years, and a few that barely made it a year! One difference is in the proper fit, preparation and installation. The other major factor, besides climate, is the care the liner receives after it is installed.
Proper care, cleaning, and chemistry play a critical role in how long a liner lasts. While this site is about repair and installation, another of our sites, PoolServiceOKC.com , is about care, cleaning, maintenance and chemistry.
In ground pool liners come in many styles, thicknesses, and quality levels, and prices can vary widely. Usually, you pretty much get what you pay for, so going cheap is not usually a good idea. But the most expensive is not always necessarily the best, either. For more about in ground liners, use this link: [ In Ground Liners ]
There is also much more information and pattern choices at our liner site, PoolLinerOKC.com
While Above Ground pools cost less than in ground pools, and the liners cost less, it is still an important purchase, and the life expectancy of above ground liners is about the same as in ground pool liners. All the things that give an in ground liner it's longevity also apply to above ground pools: Fit, Preparation, installation, and post-installation care.
One thing that makes above ground pool liners less expensive is the fact that they come in standard shapes and sizes, so they can be mass produced. Whereas In ground liners re custom fitted to the pool, above ground pools are constructed to use standard sizes of liners. Even pools with deep areas use special, expandable bottom liners, but they are still stock liners to fit a specific size pool.
There are several types of above ground liners, with and without patterns, with varying wall heights and methods of installation. The measurements and type of installation will determine the patterns and styles available. In this section we will discuss the types of liners, methods of installation, how to tell the difference, and tips for successful installation.

Swimming pool pumps are , in a way, the heart of your pool circulation system. It is the component that moves the water from the pool , through the filtration , heating, and any water treatment systems, and returns the water to the pool. There are valves that determine where the water is coming from and going to, but that's on a different subject, also covered on this site, under plumbing .
Despite different outward appearance, all swimming pool pumps work basically the same way. They are what is known as centrifugal pumps. There are different pump designs for different purposes. A pump designed for an above ground pool should not be used for an in ground pool. Most above ground pumps are designed for flooded suction, where all in ground pumps need to be self priming.
Swimming pool pumps are selected and sized with several factors in mind, including the size of the pool, and gallons per minute of water flow needed. Also taken into consideration is the type and designed flow rate of the filter, heater, plumbing, and other factors. Bigger is not always better, and it is wise to consult a flow chart and consider all factors when choosing a swimming pool pump. For more about swimming pool pumps and pump repair, use this link:
Swimming pool filters are the component that actually clean the water, removing small particles as water is pushed through it by the pump. Of course, if there is no water flow, there is no filtration. There are three main types of swimming pool filters: Sand filters, Cartridge filters, and Diatomaceous Earth filters. There are many variables, so it is important to know what type of filter you have before any attempt to repair it. Different filter designs and materials mean a variety of greatly different potential repair issues, so the best tool you have is the owner's manual. It is important to know how the filter works, in order to know when something is wrong. Often, the filter gets "blamed" for working improperly, when, actually, there is a chemical or other problem with the pool. Filters are fairly simple, and usually, when properly maintained, are trouble free for many years. Here, we'll give you an overview of the different types of swimming pool filters, how they work, how to operate different types of filters, and tips on simple repairs and maintenance.
Most swimming pool heaters are gas heaters, although there are some electric heaters, as well as solar and other types of heaters. For the most part, heater repairs are best left to experienced professionals! It is, important, though, to know the basics of how your pool heater works, and the simple things to check if the heater will not work. One of the things that will not allow the heater to work is lack of water flow. So, obviously, if the pump is not running, the heater will not work. Many modern heaters have electronic controls, and have indicators to tell the status of the heater, including basic fault conditions. There are safety devices built in to protect both the heater and the bathers. any of these devices will prevent the heater from operating. For more about heaters, use this link:
Swimming pool plumbing includes fittings, such as main drains and skimmers, as well as pipes, (or hoses) valves, and return fittings. Unlike HVAC terminology, the water going back to the pool is called the return, and the water coming from the pool through skimmers, main drains, and other fittings, is called the suction side. Swimming pool plumbing repairs are usually pretty straight forward, but complications can arise when the builder or subsequent repairmen have failed to leave enough room to glue new fittings in the PVC. Another notable complication is when there is a leak underground. There are companies who's entire business is leak detection, to pinpoint exactly where the leak is. There are some special tools and fittings used in the pool industry, but much of it is just simple plumbing. For more about swimming pool plumbing, use this link:
There are a wide variety of accessories and peripherals on modern pools, such as automatic cleaners, lights, fountains, and controllers. Most of them, like diving boards, slides, and water features, are relatively simple. Some controllers can be quite complicated, and repairs to controllers and the electrical system are best left to qualified professionals. While there really is no comprehensive swimming pool owner's manual that covers everything, this site, along with our other sites, is intended to help pool owners get a handle on the basics. We have links here to our other sites and pages, which are specifically about pool liners, safety covers, chemicals, cleaning and maintenance, spas and hot tubs, and much more. We are working on these sites to help pool and spa owners get the most from their at-home recreational dollars, because when you do need a professional pool or spa technician, we hope you will choose A-Pro! A-Pro Services - Your Pool and Spa Service Company.
We know your time is valuable so we have arranged our OKC websites to help you quickly navigate to exactly the information you need.
Under Topics: Links on this site, pertaining to the general subject. On this site, PoolRepairOKC.com, links will be related to repairs, not sales.
Under Links: PoolLinerOKC.com, for example, is the site to go to for everything you need to know about the significant investment of replacing your pool liner, including how to care for your new liner. The page about chemicals on PoolLinerOKC.com is about chemistry as it relates to caring for your liner, whereas the page about chemicals PoolRepairOKC would be more about how a salt system works, or how to fix a chlorinator. You get the idea. Sometimes, it's not easy to decide what is repair and what is service, but I'll do my best.
Under Other Links: These are just links that are less used, so they are lower on the page for easier navigation. If you want a "silly break", look for Crazy Chester. If you click on him, he'll tell you a goofy joke, and tease you to follow him to another one. Sometimes, you get a subject related tip. He wanders through all of the Pool***OKC websites. There is always a link back to the serious part of the site, though it seems that only Crazy Chester knows what page you will land on!
